I Am In It: Isolation (limited handmade edition of 30 copies)

CA$15.00

During the end of 2019 and early stages of 2020, Greg Orrē was beginning work on the I Am In It project: actively making visual art (including the oil-pastel album art for I Am In It, Vol 1), experimenting with self-recording music on a recently purchased 8-track recorder/mixer, and completing the manuscript for his first self-published poetry book I Am In It: a collection of poems. On March 11 2020, a global pandemic was declared leading to work-at-home orders, gathering restrictions, and the shutdown of multiple industries and businesses. In an attempt to raise his creative spirit and to celebrate National Poetry Month, Greg Orrē committed to sharing 30 poems during the 30 days of April 2020. The poems included in I Am In It: isolation are presented in the same order they were posted on his social media, but feature additional editing.

He began this self-imposed poetic challenge by sharing a number of poems that he had written prior to April 2020–signalling a hesitancy to jump back into writing and immediately sharing new poems. The collection’s final fifteen poems were all written in the last half of April and often posted online the same day as written.

Inspired by the regular sighting of a plastic bag and Fiona Apple’s album Fetch the Bolt Cutters released on April 17 2020, Greg Orrē began to explore a more impulsive style of writing and eased into creative flow. He listened to the new Fiona Apple album repeatedly, and his poems from that time onward were influenced by that album’s aliveness. By sharing a poem a day, he began to enjoy the process of combating perfectionism. This commitment to creativity and free writing influenced the more relaxed, natural, and experimental recording approach for his first solo album I Am In It, Volume 1 later that spring.

His second poetry collection I Am In It: isolation is a joyful read, and an artistic study and time capsule of the artist in early 2020.
